Who Killed Me? The Cindy Blazek Story

Award-winning crime journalist Lisa Joy delves into the decades-old unsolved murder of Cindy Blazek. In her research, she spent many hours interviewing Cindy’s two living siblings in person, on the phone, in text messages and emails to tell Cindy’s story and her family’s frustration that her murder remains unsolved. There were viable suspects, but RCMP still haven’t solved the case.

If anyone was truly undeserving to be the victim of a horrific brutal murder, it was beautiful young elementary school teacher 24-year-old Cindy Ann Blazek from Rosetown, Saskatchewan.

The farm girl had a natural sweetness and kindness about her that radiated in her warm, kind eyes. Her smile and melodic laugh could lighten the heaviest of hearts. The children she taught in school, and the seniors she cared for at the Rosetown Nursing Wing during her summer breaks from university, were drawn to the purity of her soul.

In high school, Cindy was an honour student, a cheerleader, and a candy striper at the local hospital. A social butterfly, she enjoyed hanging out with friends.

Cindy, a recent university grad during tough economic times in the 1980s, took a teaching job on Onion Lake Cree Nation. Three months later her charred and bludgeoned body was found inside her torched teacherage.

Police tactics during the murder investigation were called into question in court. After three gruelling trials for two males charged, one youth and one adult, no one was convicted and Cindy’s murder remains unsolved.

NOTE: Although only 81 pages, this book is priced higher due to its full-colour printing, which showcases the many photos of Cindy Blazek supplied by her family, serving as a tribute to her memory.
